Entry and Exit Requirements to Costa Rica
Citizens of most South American countries do not require a visa to enter Costa Rica.
USA and Canadian medical travellers with a valid passport and a prepaid airline ticket do not need to obtain a visa, and can stay up to 90-days in Costa Rica.
Should there be a need for an extension to the 90-day allotted period, (particularly if required by medical procedures and recovery needs), a request for an extension can be submitted to the Office of Temporary Permits of the Department of Immigration in Costa Rica.
It is strongly advisable that medical travellers adhere to this allotted period, as Costa Rica may deny entry for people who have a record of previously overstaying in the country.
